True happiness is not external; rather it is self-esteem and values held within onself. This cannot be quantified; is not measured by “things” or numbers, rather it is a feeling of serenity and joy in an otherwise chaotic world. I wish this for everyone, yet I realize there are extinuating circumstances that may prevent such. As stated, it is a choice; an individual decides whether they will meet this life with joy or negativity. I am not ashamed to say, I am often very depressed; I have had my battles, my friends and family can attest. No matter how bad I feel, I find that remaining grateful, indeed, helps me during my dark times and often pries me away from self-pity and detachment. This is not an overnight matter and one often needs guidance. There is great love in this world; it can be found in the most unlikely of places. It does not always stem from where we desire it to originate, but it exists. Love cannot be forced; you cannot control other people, but you CAN choose to be optimistic; even in the face of adversity.
